Volkswagen made a splash at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show with a radical interpretation of the 2012 Beetle – the Beetle R Concept. If you still think of the legendary German as nothing but a woman's car, prepare for quite a shock!
Flared fenders, large air intakes on the far sides of the front bumper, a rear spoiler and massive 20-inch wheels are just some of the design cues that hint at the Beetle R's sporty aspirations.
Volkswagen told the media that the car could use a similar engine as the Golf R (266 hp) and Scirocco R (261 hp) but declined to reveal the official specifications.
Since the concept shown in Frankfurt already looks like a pre-production model and Volkswagen announced its desire to go ahead with the project, don't be surprised to see the Beetle R on the road in 2012.
