The future Chevrolet Bolt electric car, whose name could be confused with the larger Volt, may have to change its moniker since two other companies hold trademarks over it, Autoguide reports. In fact, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office suspended GM’s application for the name.
Motorcycle fans already know the Yamaha Bolt, but there's also a company in Indiana called Bolt Custom Trucks, which builds custom sleeper cab for tractor trailers and applied to protect the same name before GM did.
The Chevrolet Bolt was scheduled to hit the market in about 16 months.
No one at GM has made a comment on this situation. Meanwhile, a representative of Bolt Custom Trucks said he was unaware of a conflict with the new electric car from Chevrolet.
Will the launch be delayed? And what will it be called? Stay tuned...
