The all-new Volvo XC40, set to be unveiled shortly (probably at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany in late September), is being hailed as the most creative and expressive model in the Volvo lineup – surpassing even the superb 2018 XC60. The company also promises that each owner will be able to apply his or her distinctive touch to the car.
Street fashion, urban architecture, high-end design and pop culture all played a part in inspiring the designers at Volvo when it came to choosing available materials, motifs and colours for the new small luxury SUV. With several dozen combinations of interior and exterior colour schemes available, buyers will have plenty to choose from to make the car their own.
“We wanted the XC40 to be a fresh, creative and distinctive member of the Volvo lineup, allowing its drivers to put their personality in their driveway,” explained Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Design Officer at Volvo Cars. “XC40 drivers are interested in fashion, design and popular culture, and often live in large, vibrant cities. They want a car that reflects their personality. The XC40 is that car.”
Added Robin Page, Senior Vice President Design at Volvo Cars, “As Volvo Cars has never designed a car like the XC40 before, we could start from scratch and give it energy and playfulness.”
The upcoming Volvo XC40 will share its platform as well as a number of components with the new “01” from Chinese automaker Lynk & Co, which like Volvo is owned by automotive giant Geely. We’ll have more details as they become available!
