Hyundai Motor America president and CEO Dave Zuchowski confirmed to Automotive News that several plug-in hybrid vehicles will be launched under the new Genesis luxury brand in the next few years.
This is an attempt to rival with current and future electrified cars from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, not to mention Cadillac, Audi, Volvo, and Infiniti, which have all made similar announcements recently.
Zuchowski also said that the Genesis plug-in hybrids will be an intermediate step before hydrogen fuel cell vehicles take hold in the coming decades.
The Genesis G90 is set to hit the market later this year, followed by the G80 and G70 some time after that, and a pair of crossovers around 2020.
