Andreas Renschler, CEO of smart, said that the U.S. model of the For4 will be directly aimed at U.S. preferences. The European version of the car will, of course, be different.
While the European For4 will share its platform with the next-generation Mitsubishi Colt and be assembled at Mitsubishi's NedCar factory in Born, the Netherlands, due to limited capacity the North American destined For4 will be assembled at the underused Mercedes-Benz factory in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. Renschler commented that he couldn't say when the Brazilian factory will begin production because details regarding the US product have not been finalized.
