Trying to lure in new buyers

General Motors is adding new, cheaper base trim levels to some of its popular models in an effort to be more competitive. Buyers will be able to save anywhere between $1,500 and $2,500 USD.

Said models include the Chevrolet Cruze and Equinox, GMC Terrain, and Buick LaCrosse. All of them are nearing the end of their cycle, with completely redesigned versions coming for the 2016 or 2017 model years.

The new base trims still include a 4G LTE hot spot, USB port, and keyless access as standard equipment. However, they get rid of some features including SiriusXM and the spare tire.

Will GM use a similar strategy in Canada? I guess we'll find out soon enough.
