It's been many decades since GM's travelling Motorama exhibit showcased concept cars to the public as a hint at future automobile design- but it's coming back next month. Once used to display cars like the Cadillac Lemans and Firebird I, the event was used to bolster a reputation for design leadership at GM.
Motorama will return for an exclusive showing at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance next month. A collection of iconic vehicles will be showcased together at the event for the first time, including a 1939 Buick Y-Job, 1951 Buick XP300, 1953 Corvette Dream Car, and the 1956 Buick Centurion. The older models will be joined by some of GM's latest concepts, like the Buick Invicta and Cadillac CTS coupe.
"I was eight years old when my father took me to the Philadelphia Auto Show where I first saw the Cadillac Cyclone". Says Ed Welburn, VP of GM Global Design. "That was the dream car that made me want to be a designer. Motorama served as creative impetus for a generation of designers, enthusiasts and everyday people".
The event starts on August 16th.
