General Motors announced today the hiring of 700 employees to support a second shift in preparation for the 2011 launch of the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible and the all-new Buick Regal at their Oshawa plant.

“With three new vehicle launches underway and the addition of two new shifts, the Oshawa Assembly Plant has become a model for flexibility,” said Kevin Williams, president and managing director of General Motors of Canada. “Through a disciplined approach and a relentless focus on execution, the Oshawa team has worked efficiently to implement these significant initiatives.”

This new shift for Oshawa’s line comes just weeks after the addition of a third shift to support increased production for the Chevrolet Equinox, one of North America’s fastest-selling vehicles. The two new shifts have secured over 1300 jobs for Oshawa, recalling all production workers along with the hiring of over 300 new employees.

Start of production for the Camaro Convertible is slated for January of 2011, while the Buick Regal will ramp up production in early spring. These two models will be built alongside the Chevrolet Camaro Coupe.
