A brand new series is set do make its first GP3R appearance in 2012.

GP3R organizers were happy to announce that starting this summer, new kid on the block Canadian SuperCar Championship will be part of their race weekend.

The new series came from the same mould as the Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC) and the initiative is intended to bring big cars such as Porsche 911’s, Chevrolet Camaro’s, Ford Mustang’s and Dodge Viper’s back to the canadian racing scene.

Trois-Rivières hero Marc-Antoine Camirand (BMW M3)and seasoned racer Simon Dion-Viens (Chevrolet Corvette) have already made their interest for the new championship clear.

"What could be better for us than adding super cars to our program?" wonders Dominic Fugère, the event's general manager.

Organizers also made official the return of a part of canadian motorsport heritage – the Molson Cup. Once awarded to the likes of Gilles Villeneuve, Bill Brack and Vittorio Brambilla, the trophy will go next season to the winner of the NASCAR Canadian Tire race – the weekend's main event.

Former NCATS champion and GP3R winner Andrew Ranger, as well as up-and-coming NASCAR drivers Louis-Philippe and Jean-François Dumoulin will try to get their hands on the prize in 2012.
