Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett, who recently turned 50, completely dominated Saturday’s race at Barber Motorsports Park to take a second consecutive victory in the Grand-Am Rolex Series.
The race came close to a disaster for the team even before it started. The Ganassi team lost its regular tire changer when he twisted his knee. Fortunately, the IRL series was also running at Barber this weekend, allowing the Grand-Am team to “borrow” Scott Dixon’s tire changer for the race.
"We were really fortunate to be running the same weekend as the IndyCar Series, because our IRL team was able to jump in and help us out," Pruett said. "It also meant a lot of great racing for the fans."
Pruett finished 6.870 seconds in front of Ozz Negri who shared his car with John Pew. Ryan Dalziel finished third with Mike Forest who led six laps early on in the race.
Interesting fact: This race marked the first retirement for the No. 99 Gainsco car driven by Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney. The car went in smoke before Gurney even got the wheel. The last DNF of the team was also in Barber, in 2008.
In GT, Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato took a fourth victory in the last seven starts. Jordan Taylor and Todd Lamb took second place with Rolex 24 winners Sylvain Tremblay and Jonathan Bomarito completing the podium.
The next start of the series will be on April 24th at the Virginia International Raceway of Danville.
