The Daytona International Speedway was repaved recently with a first test on the surface held less than a month ago. The results of that test were impressive and promise a great spectacle for the next Rolex 24, on January 29-30, 2011.

"The banking was very smooth, with no bumps, and it's got tons of grip, so you can run anywhere you want up there no matter what kind of car you are in," said five-time overall Daytona 24 winner Hurley Haywood after the 3-hours test.

"The transition from the infield up onto the banking was really nice, with no big transition between the two pavements. I think the repaved speedway will be a huge benefit."

The 49th edition of the Daytona 24 will be held on the last week-end of January. Haywood will return with Andrew Davis and GT Champion Leh Keen in the No. 59 Brumos Porsche GT3.

"The paving is very different on the banking - and much better. Over the years, you learned where all the bumps are. Now, it's glass smooth all the way around the banking, both high and low," said Davis, seven-times GT winner.

The first official test in the Roar Before the Rolex 24 will be held from Friday to Sunday of this week, January 7-9. We will know more about the new track surface - and title contenders - when those tests come to an end.
