Nissan has announced that their GT-R supercar has won a prestigious "Most Advanced Technology Award" as part of the Japanese Car of the Year for 2008-2009.
With selection conducted by the Car of the Year Japan Executive Committee earlier this month, the GT-R was recognized for both its lightning-fast transmission and unique all wheel drive system. According to the committee, the GT-R is a "supercar that delivers powerful performance and clean emissions, featuring an advanced new body structure combining carbon, aluminum and steel, in addition to its impressive dual-clutch transmission and the world's first independent transaxle 4WD."
GT-R is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8 liter V6, which generates a colossal 480 horsepower. Nissan's sophisticated all wheel drive system routes the output intelligently to all four wheels, ensuring optimal grip in every condition- in line with its engineer's intentions to create an all-season supercar.
Helping keep drivers and occupants safe, the GT-R utilizes an advanced airbag system with seat belt and occupant-classification sensors. Tire pressure monitoring is also included, and can alert drivers to the presence of a leak or a flat in real time. The LATCH system is fitted too- just in case you need to install a child seat.
Since launching almost a year ago, the vehicle has been a success, and is now available at 22 dealers across Canada with an MSRP of $89,900.
