The cube features a side-opening hatch, which rarely comes in handy in tight parking lots. On a positive note, access to the cargo area is easier and there's a bit more room to fit your suitcases. That's because the loading floor is actually lower than the trunk's edge and the rear seat slides a few centimeters forward in addition to folding down.
And the winner is...
Every competition must have a winner and, truth be told, we had an awfully tough time deciding between the two. Ultimately, the Nissan cube managed to rise to the top... but just barely.
Beyond its truly unique and polarizing design (either you love it or loathe it), this Japanese newcomer proves to be versatile and user-friendly, not to mention slightly more comfortable and efficient.
The Soul feels a bit less smooth on the road and definitely handles like a little truck. Yet, it came within a hair of winning our match-up.
The main conclusion we should draw out of this is that cars are getting increasingly diversified and versatile. While they target the same drivers and display a similar figure, the cube and the Soul are so different in terms of driving dynamics and so visually distinctive that everyone will find a way to like one or the other.
