Sequoia will be built alongside the Tundra at Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Princeton, Indiana, so it will be very similar to that popular new pickup. But it will also get some unique features to enhance its SUV nature.

In overall size, says Wearing, the 8-passenger Sequoia will be about the same size as the Ford Expedition and slightly larger than the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. The key dimensions for this body-on-frame vehicle include a length of 5179 mm, a wheelbase of 3000 mm, a width of 1981 mm, and a height of 1880 mm.

Sequoia will get its power from the Tundra's 4.7-litre, 32-valve, DOHC V8, which should deliver (the specs are preliminary) 240 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 315 pound-feet of torque at 3400 rpm.

Up front, Wearing says, Sequoia's suspension will be an independent double-wishbone like Tundra's, but the rear has been rehung for more ride comfort and better control and will get a 5-link live axle with coil springs.

Exact details on the Tacoma Double Cab's lineup in Canada aren't known just yet, but Wearing says it's meant to "deliver the cargo-hauling capability of a pickup truck, the passenger roominess and comfort of an SUV, and rugged styling that makes a strong active-lifestyle statement."

Wearing says that, "With the addition of these tough, versatile, innovative and powerful vehicles to the Toyota lineup over the next 12 months, Toyota will offer a comprehensive range of light trucks and SUVs for a wide variety of needs."
