TORONTO, May 1 - Honda Canada Inc. reported combined April sales of13,295 units by its Honda and Acura divisions, a 29% decrease year-over-year.

The Honda Automobile Division reported April sales of 11,865 units, down 28% from last year. The Acura Division reported April sales of 1,430 units, down 36% over last year.

"Although our April results are down from record April 2008 results, they are only off by 12 per cent over 2007 sales results," said Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president, Honda Canada Inc.

"We are encouraged to see that showroom traffic in our dealerships last month was up over previous months, and that consumer confidence is showing signs of a continued upward swing. We are also pleased to see that the Honda Civic had April sales of 6,443 units, an 11 per cent increase over the previous month's results."

Now in its 40th years of operations in Canada, Honda Canada Inc. has sold more than 3,200,000 Honda and Acura passenger cars and light-duty trucks.

Nearly half of all Honda and Acura vehicles sold in Canada in 2008 were made in Canada - a higher percentage than any other Canadian vehicle manufacturer.
