It's anyone's guess whether the once barely-known Japanese carmaker ever thought they'd sell 3 million cars in Canada when they came here in the seventies. This week though, Honda Canada celebrated just that- the sale of their 3-millionth passenger vehicle.

The announcement comes at the automakers 35th anniversary of selling Honda and Acura vehicles in Canada, and follows the recent announcement of the Honda Civic as the best selling car in Canada for the past ten years.

From selling just a relative handful of cars each year, Honda and Acura have grown to carry a full lineup of cars, SUV's, crossovers, performance cars and even a pickup. They're a highly rated brand for buyers after safety, value and reliability.

"This is a significant milestone for Honda in Canada," said Jim Miller, executive vice president of Honda Canada Inc. "We began selling cars in 1973 with a handful of dealers, selling only 747 Honda Civics that first year. Today we sell in excess of 170,000 cars and trucks per year through our 215 Honda and 48 Acura dealerships across Canada."

Honda operations employ about 21,000 people.
