Japanese automaker Honda is readying a prototype version of the next-generation Pilot for display at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month.

The current model Pilot seats up to 8 people and features an acclaimed car-like ride and handling combined with medium-duty off-road capability. It's automatic 4x4 system generates all weather traction to instill confidence in its owners- and the safe and reliable Pilot has won a spot on Car and Driver magazine's "5 Best Truck" awards for the past six years.

The new prototype builds off of the success of the current model, and Honda says that design cues intended for the production model will be showcased. It will emphasize intelligent interior packaging and advanced technology working towards safety, fuel efficiency and convenience.

Honda will also display their Hydrogen-powered FCX Clarity vehicle concept which was introduced last month. The CR-Z electric-hybrid concept sports car will join it on the stand.

The North American International Auto Show opens on January 19th.
