Strangely No GM Vehicle in Top 10

Continuing their strong first quarter market performance, Japanese automakers grabbed 6 of the Top 10 positions in Internet buyer interest in May, with Honda and Toyota taking 5 of the 6, according to figures released today by CarCostCanada.com - Canada's source for online dealer invoice cost prices and automotive research information.

The Top 10 list is as follows:

  1. Honda Accord
  2. Honda Civic
  3. Toyota Corolla
  4. Mazda Protegé
  5. Dodge Caravan
  6. Volkswagen Jetta
  7. Honda CR-V
  8. Toyota Camry
  9. Ford F-series
  10. Dodge Ram pickup
While in terms of sales pickups and vans led the way, Car Cost inquiries showed preference to midsize cars such as the Volkswagen Jetta. (Photo: Volkswagen)

"Honda's redesigned midsize Accord led the way, with the compact Civic a close 2nd and the compact CRV SUV finishing 7th. Toyota's Corolla and Camry were 3rd and 8th respectively in member pricing reports requested," reported Paul Timoteo, President of Car Cost Canada. Savvy car shoppers who use the net to research dealer cost, incentives and factory rebates prior to negotiating deals are more midsize-car oriented in their tastes than the general buying public. While GM's pick-ups & minivans and Ford's Windstar ranked in the top ten vehicle sales in the first quarter, Car Costs 11,000 member inquiries in May showed preferences instead for midsize cars, Accord, Camry and the Volkswagen Jetta.
