10:30 AM - Hyundai showed off their new 2006 Sonata. Production has already begun in their Montgomery, Alabama plant. This marks the first Hyundai built in the USA.

The Sonata's US base price will be of under $20,000. No pricing was announced for Canadian-spec models. The new sedan will feature stability control and traction control as standard equipment on all trim levels, and will include 6 airbags: dual front and side as well as side curtains.

The new Sonata is bigger inside and outside than the outgoing model. As for engines, it is powered by a 162-horsepower, 2.4-litre inline-4, or a 237-horsepower 3.3-litre V6. The Korean brand claims the V6 model to be quicker than a Honda Accord V6.

Hyundai also reaffirmed that their "24/7" plan, which is to introduce 7 new models in the next 24 months. It begins with the new Tucson, carries on with the Sonata and will eventually include a new minivan, a replacement for the current Accent and other current model revamps.

The new Tucson, already in dealerships, is Hyundai's first compact SUV. It can be delivered with a 4 or 6 cylinder engine and is available with either front or all-wheel drive.
