Will Hyundai sell a version of its Equus show car here in North America? The fact that it dares to display it on the auto show circuit is a good indication that there's a chance a top-tier luxury car could be a future Hyundai reality. |
Hyundai Auto expects sales of affiliate Kia Motors to increase to $14 billion in 2003, up from a projected $12 billion last year, much due to its hot new Sorento SUV. Kia entered the Canadian market boldly a few years ago with a varied product line and ramped up to over 150 dealerships within the first year. Their Sedona minivan, new last year, marked the first vehicle of its type for either Kia or Hyundai available in Canada.
What does the future hold in store? Expect a minivan from Hyundai, but probably not before a new luxury sedan will replace the XG350. The Korean company's quality is getting so good it has been showing off a Lexus fighter dubbed Equus HCD-7 at auto shows since year 2000, trying to get feedback from North American car buyers. A variation of the Equus could become a production model.
