Hyundai Motor America announced it has begun reporting monthly sales-weighted Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) to provide the media and consumers with additional data as the brand strives to achieve a CAFE level of at least 35 miles per gallon (6.72 L/100 km) by 2015.
For January 2011, Hyundai’s sales-weighted CAFE level was 34.7 mpg (6.78 L/100 km), with a model year mix for the month of 86 percent 2011 and 14 percent 2010 model year vehicles.
More specifically, Hyundai trucks and SUVs achieved a rating of 29.8 mpg (7.89 L/100 km), while its passenger cars averaged 36.4 mpg (6.46 L/100 km).
This is a significant improvement from 2009, when Hyundai reported an official CAFE level of 31.7 mpg (7.42 L/100 km).
The Korean automaker promised to put more 40-mpg (5.88 L/100 km) cars on the road than any other company in 2011.
