Hyundai will appeal a $248 million verdict that includes $8 million for the families of two boys (age 19 and 14) who were killed in a crash involving a reportedly defective 2005 Hyundai Tiburon, as well as $240 million in punitive damages.
The accident occurred in 2001 in Montana. Jurors came to the conclusion that the vehicle's steering failed and led to the crash, a problem which they believe Hyundai had previously known about.
While the accident was tragic, the company said through a spokesman that the verdict is "outrageous, and should be overturned as Hyundai is not at fault."
