BMW's F1 engines wind out to more than 19,000 rpm but the Williams chassis hasn't recently been capable of keeping them at the front.

DaimlerChrysler is battling it out with Mercedes-Benz in F1, touring car and F3 while Dodge is doing duty in NASCAR and Barber Dodge. BMW is probably the greatest threat to Ferrari's F1 dominance but wins more races in touring car. There's a rumor its MINI brand will try to duplicate its race winning heritage in WRC sometime in the near future. Honda is concentrating its F1 efforts under just one banner next year, BAR, which should bode well for its fortunes.

CART is going through a metamorphosis that will probably have it growing its popularity in the long run.

It's also pulled up stakes in CART to join the IRL, so future products should be especially adept at turning left. The Japanese brand also supports touring car and F3. Toyota fired both its F1 drivers due to a lack of results in the 2002 season, but is still expected to perform well over the long haul. It too has left the CART series for the IRL. Like arch rival Honda, Toyota supports F3 while supplying engines and financial support for one of the most exciting open-wheel series in existence, Toyota Atlantics.

Exciting yes, but rally's growing fanbase will tell you the World Rally Championship is the best motor racing available. Mitsubishi has been focused solely on rallying for years, winning 3 titles with flying Finn Tommi Mäkinen at the helm, but the Japanese company is rumored to be tapering off its efforts for the 2003 season due to a recent lack of competitiveness and the need to divert funds to the 2004 car. This would be a blow to the series as the red Lancer EVO's are an integral part of the competitive WRC landscape.
