up or tearing down GMC. As far as those who work within the brand know, at least at the lower levels, it's business as usual. And for all I know, GM may have some very sound reasons for keeping what seems like a redundant brand alive. Reasons I, being an outsider, am not privy to. This column is purely speculative, a poke at an open wound with a vinegar soaked cloth maybe, but hypothetical just the same.

What isn't speculative, mind you, is the need for GM to cut redundancies and therefore costs. With little doubt, something will be done and at least one brand will be the victim, but better one brand sacrificed than an entire automaker fall. All I can say is that I'm glad I just write about it and don't have to implement it.
