Rookie driver Alex Lloyd was hospitalized Friday after hitting the wall hard during practice for the Indianapolis 500 while a Dale Coyne's crew member was also taken to hospital after being hit by Danica Patrick's car.
Lloyd lost control of his Rahal Letterman Dallara in the first turn. He struck the outside wall with the rear of the car and continued into the second turn. Lloyd was examined at the track's hospital, but it was decided to take the 23 years old to Methodist Hospital for further tests after complaining of neck pain.
Dale Coyne Racing crew member Chuck Buckman was struck by Danica Patrick as she was entering her pit box. By mistake, Buckman stepped into the path of Patrick's car as she came in. He was taken to Methodist Hospital with scalp and facial cuts as well as a suspected concussion.
Meanwhile Scott Dixon set the fastest speed of the day with a lap at 226.968 mph and he was just slightly better than Andretti, Kanaan and Ryan Briscoe.
Action begins Saturday with one final practice session at 9 a.m. ET. The qualifying session starts at noon and ends at 6 p.m.
