Former Champ Car and IndyCar frontrunner Patrick Carpentier was glad to be back behind the wheel of an open-wheel car but he had hoped the conclusion would have been different .
The Canadian really did try his best to get the Dragon Racing car on the Indianapolis starting grid but an accident during practice left the team with no other alternative then to quit.
Carpentier, who ran single seaters from 1997 to 2005, was called by Dragon Racing in hopes he would be able to gather enough pace to put Scott Speed's car on the 33-car starting grid.
Patrick Carpentier stated that his good buddy Paul Tracy was the one behind his comeback explaining that the former Champ Car champion had asked the team to give Carpentier a chance at it.
