Team Penske Racing dominated the practice session at the Honda Indy Edmonton on Friday with all three of their drivers taking the top spots on the speed charts.

Australian Will Power, the winner of the Indy Toronto held last weekend and the defending Edmonton race winner, topped the field with a best lap of 1:01.6689 seconds in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske car.

"It's great to see the Verizon car on top in practice, but I'm not quite happy with it," said Power, who is seeking his third consecutive victory.

"The Penske team is very strong again here and with how competitive the field is now we have to work extra hard. We're feeding off each other and see if we can be 1-2-3 again tomorrow."

His two Penske teammates, Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves finished the day second and third, respectively.

Dario Franchitti, driving for team Target-Ganassi, was fourth ahead of Japanese driver Takuma Sato, driving the No. 5 Lotus KV Racing Technology car, who jumped to fifth place in the final minutes.

Justin Wilson, the pole sitter at the Toronto Indy, was seventh in the No. 22 Z-Line Designs car and E.J. Viso was eighth in the No. 8 PDVSA KV Racing Technology car.

Canadian Paul Tracy, who has finished fourth and sixth the past two seasons at Edmonton, was ninth quick in the No. 15 Make-A-Wish KV Racing Technology car. Tony Kanaan was 10th in the No. 11 Team 7-Eleven car.

The top 11 cars were separated by less than a second.

The other Canadian in the race, Alex Tagliani from Montreal, was only 14th in the Hot Wheels FAZZT Racing entry.

“The team made some changes between the sessions that were positive but when we put new tires on, we'd lose the balance of the car, giving the car instability under braking and understeer in the high speed portions of the track," said Tagliani after the final practice of the day.

"It's a bit frustrating but I have confidence that we'll get it sorted out before qualifying on Saturday.”
