The engine supplier Chevrolet has announced that it would be replacing all the powerplants in all 11 of its V-6-powered entries in the IZOD IndyCar Series for the upcoming Grand Prix of Long Beach.
According to an official statement from Chevrolet, the decision was made following the tear-down and inspection of an engine that experienced an issue during an IndyCar-sanctioned test earlier this week at Infineon Raceway.
Therefore, all of the 11 drivers driving the Chevrolet-powered DW12 will be strucked with a 10 position penalty on the starting grid prior to the green flag for the Long Beach race.
Andretti Autosport's James Hinchcliffe already had been penalized 10 spots after his team changed his engine Monday after he had faced mechanical issues in California during practice.
Along with those 10 drivers, Sebastian Bourdais has also been back marked after his Lotus-Judd had to be replaced.
