Former Team Penske driver Ryan Briscoe is sure that it is too late for him now to get a full-time ride in the IZOD IndyCar Series for the upcoming season but a probable participation in the Indianapolis 500 is still a possibility.
During the off-season, the Australian had been linked to a number of teams, among those; Dragon Racing, Rahal Letterman Lanigan and, even, AJ Foyt Racing. But, as we know now, those seats have all been filled by other candidates and Briscoe is left on the sidelines.
With no major financial backing to help him secure a ride, Briscoe is now turning his attention to sportscars racing where, in 2007, he accepted Roger Penske’s invitation to join the factory Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 program in the ALMS.
For the moment, the only commitment he has is for three races with HRT (the factory Holden V8 Supercars team) later in the year.
“I’d love to do the 12 Hours of Sebring again; I’d love to do any of the ALMS events or DP in GRAND-AM,” he said to SPEED. “I’m wide open to the right opportunity.”
