To no surprise for many observers, the IndyCar series has announced that the Japanese venue of the Twin Ring Motegi won’t be back on the schedule in 2012.

That means that the association between the North American series and the Japanese race track will cease after more than nine years. Motegi will host its final IndyCar race on September 18 this year.

Motegi, which is own by Honda, has been hosting the race since 2003, an event won by Scott Sharp.

The oval was also the venue of Danica Patrick's maiden and so far only win in the IndyCar series in 2008.

It was also the first international event added to the IndyCar series' schedule.
