IndyCar test driver Dan Wheldon has completed the first ever test on the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway of the new Dallara chassis a few days after doing the same at the Iowa Speedway.

The winner of the 2011 Indy 500 took the 2012 IndyCar through its paces for the first of three-day session on a superspeedway oval.

Teams are scheduled to take delivery of their first chassis in mid-December to begin testing at the start of 2012.

Wheldon wants to point out that for the time being those tests are not about pure speed but rather a way to get accustomed with the handling of the car.

"We'll wait till (September 29) to put the big numbers down. We have to manage our expectations. I know everybody wants to see huge speeds, but it's about doing what's right for the car,” he said.

"This is our final test, and it's important that we learn enough so when the customers get their cars we feel we've given them something they'll be very happy with' Wheldon added.

Wheldon will return to action next week together with Helio Castroneves and Graham Rahal for tire testing in the current car to carry out back-to-back comparisons.
