Former de Ferran Dragon Racing driver Raphael Matos has signed a deal with AFS Racing, his former Indy Lights team, to compete in the IZOD IndyCar season opener in St. Petersburg.
AFS Racing, which has been associated in the past with Andretti Autosports in occasional IndyCar outings, will be on its own for the first time and has decided to give a chance to the former 2008 Indy Lights champion.
Matos won titles in Formula Dodge, Star Mazda and the Atlantic series before his Lights success, so is confident he deserves another shot at IndyCar even though his first two years at the top level did not live up to his expectations.
