KV Racing Techology's Takuma Sato has earned his second pole of the year - his first on a road course - at the IndyCar race in Edmonton.
Penske's Will Power came in second, only 0.0509 seconds adrift the former Formula One driver. It will be the first time this year the Australian will not start on top at a road course.
Both Ganassi drivers are following with Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti starting respectively 3rd and 4th. EJ Viso backed up Sato's pole with fifth place for KV, alongside Penske's Ryan Briscoe.
James Hinchcliffe was clearly the best of the local drivers with 10th for Newman-Haas.
Although he had been running well in practice, Canadian Alex Tagliani (Sam Schmidt Motorsports) could only managed a distant 17th.
Veteran and contryman Paul Tracy never got to speed in his Dragon Racing car as he qualified 25th.
It was a long day in Edmonton as the activities of Friday afternoon were cancelled due to downpours at the track.
