Infiniti will use the occasion of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit for its global premiere of the QX50 concept SUV. Based on the QX Sport Inspiration concept first presented at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2016, the QX50 offers the manufacturer’s vision of the mid-size luxury SUV of tomorrow.
The Infiniti QX50 concept will feature autonomous driving technologies designed to free the driver from certain tasks, such as following traffic flow, by accelerating or braking as needed and allowing the SUV to hold its position and its lane in reaction to vehicles around it. These technologies will be incorporated in future production vehicles by the carmaker.
Visitors to the Detroit show will also be able to check out the SUV’s all-new engine: a variable-compression VC-Turbo engine. This is the world’s first production-ready engine to offers the performance of a 2.0L turbo combined with the torque and efficiency of a diesel engine. The new setup allows the torque to adjust to meet different driving conditions and ensure optimal efficiency, along with upwards of 268 HP and a compression ratio varying from 8:1 to 14:1.
