Nasser Al-Attiyah (Ford Focus) took victory in the Cyprus Rally, last Intercontinental Rallye Challenge round.
The championship battle was already over after Juho Hanninen (Skoda) clinched the title at the Scotland Rally. For that reason, several teams decided not to compete this very last 2010 IRC round in Cyprus Island.
After early mechanical issues hampered both Andreas Mikkelsen (Ford Focus) and Bryan Bouffier (Peugeot 207), Nasser Al-Attiyah moved up into the lead, and was fighting hard with Martin Prokop’s Ford Focus.
But Prokop suffered a drive shaft problem, and was forced to let Al Attiyah pull away out in front. However, the driver from Qatar suffered a puncture and a penalty, which put Prokop back into the lead!
But then again, the Czech driver lost ground after another drive shaft problem, and Al Attiyah inherited first position, and eventually took victory.
Al Attiyah finished first ahead of Roger Feghali’s Skoda Fabia, and Martin Prokop.
Cyprus Rally classification:
1. Al Attiyah-Bernacchini (Ford Fiesta S2000) in 3h11’43’’5
2. Feghali-Matar (Skoda Fabia S2000) +30’’7
3. Prokop-Tomanek (Ford Fiesta S2000) +4’42’’0
4. Tarabus-Trunkat (Ford Fiesta S2000) +5’40’’5
5. Thomas-Loizides (Peugeot 207 S2000) +6’45’’5
