The IndyCar Series has announced the creation of the committee called ICONIC (Innovative, Competitive, Open-Wheel, New, Industry-Relevant, Cost-Effective) that will analyze, discuss and recommend a new chassis/engine package for 2012-2017.
Gil De Ferran, former series, driver and co-owner of Luczo Dragon/de Ferran Motorsports will be a member.
Other members include Brian Barnhart, president of Indy Racing League competition, Tony Purnell, former technical adviser FIA and F1 Jaguar team principal, Eddie Gossage, president of Texas Motor Speedway, Neil Ressler, former President of Jaguar F1 team and Ford engineer, Tony Cotman, vice president of competition of IndyCar and Rick Long, former engineer of Offenhauser, Cosworth and Judd.
Retired Air Force general William R Looney III will run the committee.
The IndyCar series is set to adopt new rules in two years' time, with concepts from Lola, Dallara, Swift and new organisations DeltaWing and BAT all under consideration.
