Target Ganassi’s Scott Dixon earned an undisputed win today at the Mid-Ohio road circuit, establishing an unprecedented record of 20 victories and succeeded in taking the IndyCar championship lead back once again.

Dixon seemed so much at ease in the second part of the race that he crossed the finish line with a near half a minute lead over pole sitter Ryan Briscoe (Penske) who returned to being the eternal runner-up.

The current champion took the lead by running longer than anyone else before his first stop, and consequently jumped ahead of Briscoe and closed right in on Justin Wilson (Dale Coyne).

Thanks largely to Milka Duno (Dreyer & Reinbold), Dixon was able to pass Wilson as the Briton try to lap the Venezuelan just before half-distance.

Wilson then dropped out of contention for victory at the next stops, as his car ran dry coming into the pits and then struggled to restart, consigning him to a distant 13th place finish.

Meanwhile, Briscoe's tyres faded badly, leaving him with his hands full fending off Dixon's Ganassi team-mate Dario Franchitti for third.

Canadian Paul Tracy had a pretty decent day with a seventh place finish on his one-off return to KV Racing while Mario Moraes attended his father's funeral.

Next stop will be the Infineon road course in California on August 23rd.
