Dario Franchitti got the best of his Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon and took pole for the IndyCar season’s finale at the Miami-Homestead Speedway.

Ryan Briscoe (Penske), who is currently third in the standings, will start on the second row as the three championship contenders dominated the session.

Franchitti’s four-lap average of 212.696 mph proved unbeatable, and the extra point he collected means he will start the race just four points adrift of Dixon.

Vision Racing's Ed Carpenter came close to Dixon and Briscoe's pace early in his qualifying run and his fourth place equals his career best at Michigan three years ago.

It was also an impressive day for the Newman/Haas/Lanigan duo of Alex Lloyd and Graham Rahal who finished respectively 5th and 6th, the Briton out-qualifying his team-mate at the first attempt.
