Representatives from the IndyCar IZOD series, among them Tony Cotman, were in Quebec City yesterday to evaluate the possibility of holding an event in the city in 2011.

Andre Azzi, the promoter of the event and co-owner of the FAZZT Racing Team, is optimistic and believes that the IRL brass is keen about having a race held in the old city but that there is a lot a work to be done first.

“The streets of Quebec are narrow so that is why we have to look for the proper course in order to have sufficient speed to make it an exciting event,” declares Azzi.

“ We are looking at the lower part of Quebec, in the Old Port and Bassin Louise.”

The promoter has met yesterday with Regis Labaume, mayor of Quebec and although he received a warm welcome, the emphasis was put on the fact that the evaluation of the project should be made as to minimize the impact on the local residents.

As for the costs of holding such an event, André Azzi wants to wait for the final layout of the proposed circuit. Either way, no final decision will be made before this coming October.
