In a race marred by incidents and yellow flags, Justin Wilson did a marvellous run to win for Dale Coyne its first ever win either in IndyCar or in Champ Car in over 25 years at Watkins Glen.

Justin Wilson and the Dale Coyne Racing team.

In a race that reminded us of what happened in St-Petersburg, Wilson was able to finish first after having to fight all the way with polesitter Ryan Briscoe (Penske) who finished second ahead of Scott Dixon (Ganassi).

As soon as the race got underway, Wilson attacked Briscoe. On lap four, the Briton was able to take the lead at the famous ''Bus Stop'' and his cause was helped by Richard Antinucci (3G) who spun his car and caused a yellow. Briscoe, Mario Moraes (KV), Dixon, Tony Kanaan (AGR) and Franchitti (Ganassi) had yet to pit.

The middle stages saw a great number of yellows and problems for several major contenders as Moraes crashed into Ed Carpenter (Vision) with Franchitti spinning into the gravel in avoidance and losing a lap.

During a restart following a caution caused by Mutoh crashing at Turn 7, Wilson made sure the Australian had no opportunity to get close, sprinting away from his pursuers with a perfect restart and leaving Briscoe to fend off title rival Dixon.

As this pair battled, Wilson simply left them standing, pulling away to take his small team's first ever victory by a comfortable 4.9s.

Briscoe beat Dixon across the line by just 0.2s, with Castroneves close behind.

Not a great race for Paul Tracy (KV) who spun his KV Dallara into the barrier at Turn 7 while running 11th.
