IndyCar officials, delighted with the operation of the overtake button, or push-to-pass, at last weekend's race in Kentucky, have made a small tweak for the road race in Mid-Ohio.
Previously, the driver was given a series of 20, 10-second shots of 5-20 horsepower, which is approximately 200 rpm over the limit of 10,300 of the normally aspirated, Honda V-8s.
For this weekend in Mid-Ohio, there will only be 15 presses for 20 seconds of extra power, then there will be a 10-second recharge time while rpms drop by 100.
Team Penske driver Ryan Briscoe, winner in Kentucky said “On that road course, coming off the second gear corner and going straight up sixth gear and pulling 10.5 (rpms) on every gear change, I think that's definitely going to show a boost, a bit of extra speed.”
