Qualifying for the Japan Indy 300 has been cancelled as rain brought to a stop to all activities on the Twin Ring circuit.
According to the rules governing the IRL series, the grid will therefore be based on current championship positions, with Penske driver Helio Castroneves handed pole position.
The rain had been widely forecasted, so the teams had already focused on race set-ups during yesterday's two practice sessions in the expectation that they would not have to worry about four-lap qualifying runs this weekend.
