More than nine months after his crash at the Indianapolis Speedway, Vitor Meira will be back on track in the No.14 car of AJ Foyt Racing for the start of a two-day open test at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.
It will mark Meira’s first time in a race car since the racing incident, though he has participated in a few off-season karting events in the United States and his native Brazil.
Meira, who will turn 33 during the St. Petersburg race weekend, will be reunited with Jeff Britton as his race engineer. They posted positive results with Rahal Letterman Racing in 2005.
"It's always good to go back to somebody that you've worked with and worked well," says Meira, who recorded seven top-five finishes in 2005 including second place in the Indianapolis 500.
"While we were together at Rahal we were very fast. It was my first full season in 2005 and finishing second in the 500 and seventh in the championship what else can you ask for? I hope we can start from where we left off.
