Only weeks after the death of Formula 2 driver Henry Surtees and the scary head injury of Felipe Massa of Ferrari in Hungary, the world of motorsport was shocked again by a terrible accident.
Former Karting European Champion, Thomas Knopper of the Netherlands crashed heavily during Round 4 in the German series in Liedolsheim.
The 19-year-old Dutchman, who returned to karting after having contested the Formula Renault NEC Championship came into collision with the kart of another competitor, Italian De Conto.
Knopper’s kart violently hit the embankment at the side the race track and tumbled several times.
Knopper was killed instantly and De Conto has been reported with serious injuries.
