Both models of the more expensive Range Rover for 2006 come fully equipped, Bernardini says, and both feature new V-8s, improved dynamics, and exterior enhancements, thereby ''reaffirming Range Rover's position as the flagship vehicle for Land Rover.''
The HSE gets a 4.4-litre that produces 305 hp, while the supercharged model gets a 4.2-litre V-8 good for 400 hp, which would make it ''the most powerful Land Rover ever,'' Bernardini notes.
Bernardini says that both engines are lightweight and use advanced torque-based engine management systems that, together with drive-by-wire throttle control and variable camshaft phasing (on the naturally aspirated), ''continually adjust the engine to deliver optimum performance, fuel economy and emissions. While the result is increased performance, the upgraded engines achieve better fuel economy than the outgoing V-8.''
So the Range Rover for 2006 is not only faster, says Bernardini, it's also quieter as cabin noise is reduced as a result of the engine changes, laminated front side glass and a modified A-post profile.
Steering is enhanced, he adds, and the air suspension with adjustable ride-height is improved for even better on- and off-road performance and comfort.
While Range Rover retains its shape, Bernardini says, ''there are subtle yet distinct changes.''
All Range Rovers for 2006 get a new front bumper design, new headlamps and taillights, a new front grille, revised power vents and new 19-inch alloy wheels.
The supercharged derivatives are distinguished by additional styling modifications, including mesh-design front grille and power vents, unique 20-inch alloy wheels, and special black-on-silver badging.
All Range Rover models come highly equipped with four-corner independent air suspension, Hill Descent Control, Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 digital surround-sound AM/FM-stereo audio system with six-disc in-dash CD changer and 14 speakers, satellite radio, tire pressure monitoring, touch-screen navigation, Bluetooth telephone connectivity, and a rear-view camera.
The supercharged model adds premium leather, Brembo front brakes, adaptive front lighting, chrome exhaust tips and the above-mentioned 20-inch wheels.
