Audi announced its driver line-up for the most important sports car race of the year, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Capello-Kristensen-McNish, Bernhard-Dumas-Rockenfeller and Fassler-Lotterer-Treluyer will drive the three TDI Audi R15s next June.
Veterans Capello-Kristensen-McNish will be Audi's prime team while the Bernhard-Dumas-Rockenfeller trio will drive the No 9 R15.
The third team has less experience behind the wheel of the Audi endurance car. Only Marcel Fassler has some, having driven the R10 in selected American Le Mans Series events a few years ago.
The ACO, organizers of the 24 Hours of Le Mans published Thursday the list of the competitors and cars invited to the administrative checking and scrutineering of next June's event.
Twenty-one LMP1 cars, 9 LMP2, 8 GT1 et 17 GT2 will take the start of the race.
In LMP1, three Peugeot 908s are entered, plus a fourth car entered by ORECA. There will also be the 3 Audis and two works Aston Martins.
The Mansell family -- Nigel and his two sons Greg and Leo - will compete aboard a Ginetta-Zytek LMP1 that will sport in famous red Number 5.
In the LMP2 class, things will be easier than expected for Acura since there will be no Porsche RS Spyders at the start. The Acura of Highcroft Racing with David Brabham and Marino Franchitti is a clear favorite. They will races against a horde of Pescarolos, WRs, Ginettas and Lolas.
In GT1, it will be an intense fight for the win between Corvette, Ford and Aston Martin.
The quickly expanding GT2 category will also be hard fought with 17 cars entered, including three works teams of Corvette, BMW and Jaguar.
The Ferrari F430 of team AF Corse devoted to Giancarlo Fisichella (and probably Jean Alesi) does not appear on the list but is listed as 3rd reserve car in GT.
