Former Formula 1 World Champion and rally driver Kimi Raikkonen will test the Peugeot 908 Wednesday in Spain.

The Finn, who contests the World Rally Championship in a private Citroen DS3, and who has made his NASCAR Truck debut earlier this year, is expected to join the French squad for the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours.

Raikkonen could replace Pedro Lamy, as the Portuguese’s future at Peugeot is in doubt since his disappointing performance during the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours. Lamy did not drive the car during the last portion of the race.

Raikkonen’s arrival would fit Peugeot’s strategy, who always preferred to run drivers who have Formula 1 experience (Alex Wurz, Franck Montagny, Stéphane Sarrazin, Sébastien Bourdais, Anthony Davidson…)

Indy Light series' reigning champion Jean-Karl Vernay, Peugeot's reserve driver, could also join the team as a race driver for Le Mans.
