Long known as the mysterious « 90X », the new LMP1 prototype Peugeot keeps the number « 908 », as explained Xavier Peugeot, Marketing and Communication director of the French car manufacturer.

“This car is fully consistent with the modernity of the brand, with the 408 being launched in Latin America, the 508 with the first vehicles have just arrived at dealerships the new 308 which will be discussed in detail in the coming days. And also with our first diesel hybrid in the world, the 3008 HYbrid4. This new protoype had to be called 908,” he said.

The Peugeot 908 will be powered by a 3.7-liter, 90-degree V8 diesel HDI FAP enginewhich will deliver 550 horsepower. This is a closed prototype, with the new shark fin imposed by the regulations this year.

The car weighs 900 kilos and has a 65-litre fuel cell. For the first time, it will be fitted with four identical tires mounted on 18-inch wheel.

The major objective is of course to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans after the defeat against Audi in the 2010 edition. Peugeot will also contest the Le Mans Series.

No changes as far as the drivers are concerned with Alexander Wurz, Anthony Davidson, Marc Gene, Stephane Sarrazin, Franck Montagny, Nicolas Minassian, Sebastien Bourdais, Pedro Lamy and Simon Pagenaud being back.
