Le Mans race organiser and the FIA will launch a new World Endurance Championship next year.
After the American Le Mans Series in 1998, and the Le Mans Series in Europe in 2004, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest created a new world trophy last season, with the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, which included races in USA, Europe and Asia.
From 2012, the championship will be sanctioned by the FIA, and will become the fifth FIA world championship alonside Formula 1, WRC, WTCC and GT1.
The schedule will be quite the same than the ILMC, and will comprise six events: Sebring, Spa, Silverstone, Petit Le Mans and Zhuhai, also including the Le Mans 24 Hours.
