South African car manufacturer Bailey Cars will enter the 2012 Le Mans Series championship with its new LMP2 prototype.
Based in the Eastern suburbs of Johannesburg, Bailey Cars was founded in 2003 by Peter and Greg Bailey.
The company is well known in South Africa for making replicas of super cars such as the Ford GT1, Ford GT40 and Porsche 917.
The South Africans have decided to design, build and develop a prototype designed for endurance racing.
The car, which will fit the LMP2 regulations of the ACO (Le Mans 24 Hours and Le Mans Series championships’ organizer), will be entered under the banner of Bailey Cars. It will also be made available to any privateer.
The first tests have been conducted by former South African endurance driver George Fouché, and by Jaki Scheckter, the nephew of the 1979 F1 world champion Jody Scheckter.
Bailey Cars intends to run the entire Le Mans Series in 2012, and hopes to be eligible to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
